Did you know? This month is National Pet Wellness Month! For all pet parents looking to improve their furry friend’s health, this is the month to do it! So your pets can stay with you and enjoy this vast world together for a loooong time.
Flourishing health in pets can help them live their lives to the fullest, and you won’t have to stress about any health concerns if they are in tip-top shape. ✨ But have you ever wondered what you can do for your pets to increase their longevity and improve their wellness? MyFriend can assure you that it’s not hard at all! By incorporating these tips into your routine, you can achieve your goals. But don’t forget, you should never force your pet if they are uncomfortable.
You should take pets that have matured to the veterinarian at least once a year. Just to make sure there aren’t any health issues or abnormalities that might be hiding in plain sight. As for pets that are still in their early years, as well as their senior age, pet parents should make sure that they get more love and attention from the vet. Make sure all vaccinations are up to date, and follow any tips or treatment plans your vet has provided for your furry friend.
We know, pets are so cute when they carry a little extra weight. There’s more to love! Right? Well, more to love also means more potential issues and diseases that might creep up. Such as cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. That’s why regular walkies or playtime is crucial to burn off that extra energy. Not only this, but portion control is as important as exercise. If you’re worried about your pet’s weight, consult the vet for a specific weight loss program!
Desexing your pet doesn’t just benefit the overall pet population issue, but it can also have positive effects on behavioral problems. Issues such as urine marking and aggression, as well as help reduce the risks of pets developing reproductive cancers such as prostate cancer.
Dental hygiene is something pet parents often neglect in pets, but just like humans, they need their pearly whites too! You should brush their teeth 2-3 times/week. This can reduce the likelihood of pets developing oral health problems, like Gingivitis. You can use pet-specific brushes, or even use a normal human toothbrush! But if they protest or refuse, you can give them dental treats instead too.
Pet’s shed their fur a lot! Brushing them can help remove dead skin cells and unwanted strands of hair. If you intend to brush off excess hair, please make sure to be careful and gentle. Brush according to their fur pattern, so they don’t feel any pain or discomfort. Breeds with long fur should be brushed every day, and those with medium or short hair should get at least 1 brushing session a week. As for super short hair, regular brushing is not necessary.
Although our pets might seem fine and dandy, it doesn’t mean that their internal health is always great. That’s why pet parents should always take them to the vet for a consultation and check-up! So everything can be sorted and identified before it becomes a chronic issue. Health always comes first! 💪
