The 4 dogs that saved human lives

Known as “Man’s Best Friend” dogs are really a hooman’s most trusted companion. Let’s take a look at these inspiring friends who saved lives!

Known as “Man’s Best Friend” dogs are really a hooman’s most trusted companion. Not just because of the thousands of years of domestication and conditioning, but it’s also because of the familial bond between us and our furry friends. A tie that can determine between life and death.

Let’s take a look at these inspiring friends who saved lives!

Peanut

Peanut is a three-year-old stray that lives in the Delta Animal Shelter. When she was found, she had two broken legs, a belly full of carpet, and broken ribs. All of these injuries were separate, which means she was suffering for a long while. She was eventually adopted by a nice family! One day, Peanut was running around the house while barking loudly, in an attempt to communicate and guide her hoomans to the little 3-year-old girl who was naked and curled up into a ball by the ditch behind their backyard. After informing the authorities, they were able to save the three-year-old girl, alongside another girl who was also being abused in the same household.

Cheyenne

The gentle pitbull saved her veteran dad Senior David Sharpe in a fragile moment. Sharpe suffered from undiagnosed PTSD and depression. On that day, he was sitting on his kitchen floor holding his .45 caliber, “ready to finish the fight with the demons that followed me back from the war,” then Cheyenne came to sit right next to him, and licked his ear. This seemingly small act made Sharpe laugh out loud, and realize that he has a purpose and a reason to continue living. From then on, Cheyenne became Sharpe’s unofficial therapy dog.

Roselle

The cream-colored Labrador who is Michael Hingson’s guide dog and her blind handler was in the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001. Roselle lead Hingson to exit the building, before helping another 31 lives escape the cloud of dust.

Clover

Clover, a German Shepherd mixed Maremma Sheepdog has never been trained as a seizure dog. On one snowy day, Haley Moore (Clover’s mom) collapsed during their walk. Clover then ran into the streets to stop oncoming traffic and ask for help. To this day, the cause of Moore’s seizure is unknown, but she reported back to CTV News as “If this ends up happening again, I feel 10 times safer and I know she will be there for me. You know how good animals are and she’s a really amazing dog and I love her to death”

While most of us think that taking in a furry friend is an act of service to help better the quality of their lives, the opposite is also true. Our pets also have the ability to save our lives as well. Whether it would be life-threatening events like we’ve mentioned, small gestures like wagging their tails when they see us, to even a simple hug after a rough day. Love is a two-way street, and the love we give our pets is also returned to us as well!

10 Cat sleeping positions and their meaning

There’s probably nothing cuter than a cat dozing off. But have you ever wondered what each of their sleeping positions means?

Cat parents love their adorable fur babies. From the little “meows” they give you when you arrive home, to the purring they do when you guys cuddle. ? As a pawrent, you probably know that cats sleep up to 18 hours a day, or even more at times!

There’s probably nothing cuter than a cat dozing off. But have you ever wondered what each of their sleeping positions means? ?? Let’s find out!

Curled up - is probably the most common position you’ll find your pet in. This position keeps them warm and cozy while allowing them to protect their tummy! (AKA where all their vital organs are!)

Belly up - means your feline friend trusts you with their gut (literally)! It's the epitome of relaxation and security.

Loafing - when your cat tucks all of their little paws underneath them protects their body heat and vital organs! It means they’re relaxed but ready to fight if they need to. ?

Sideways - probably just means they’re taking a cat nap. Similar to the loafing position, this means they’re chilling but they’re also ready for any incoming action.

Sitting Upright - don’t you love it when they hang out in this position? They look like a fellow hooman! This position means they feel comfortable and safe since their belly is exposed!

On top of you - well well well, look at you! Congratulations, because this officially means they are bonded to you, and they want a little extra quality time with you

Next to you - even if they’re not on top of you, if your feline friend is sleeping next to you: it means they want a little extra warmth from your love! ??

Paws over eyes - is definitely on the top of our Awwwwww-list! This position means they’re in a comfortable position, but the light might be a little too much for their eyes ??

One eye open, one eye closed - or when they sleep with their eyes half open and half closed is when they’ve just started dozing off! They’re still in between the realm of reality and dreams!

In a cardboard box - cats love cozy corners! Ever bought toys for them and they ended up liking the box more? Being in these spaces makes them feel secure, safe, and happy! It’s like the box is giving them a hug ?

Cats are creatures that require a lot of sleep, and they’re the most alert during the brink of dawn! They are hunters packaged as mini cheetahs. So naturally, their predatory instincts are still intact. This can explain why they have the half-asleep, half-ready-to-pounce poses! Which of these positions do your cats love the most? ?

What does it mean to be a Dog or Cat Person?

Not everything is that simple and straightforward. Even with a preference of furry companions, some of those who love dogs probably have a soft spot for kitties!

There are two types of people in the world. People who love cats, or people who adore dogs.

But wait a minute ✋ if all hoomans are really divided into only two categories, wouldn’t there be a line to separate us in the middle?

Not everything is that simple and straightforward. Even with a preference of furry companions, some of those who love dogs probably have a soft spot for kitties! Even cat lovers out there, seeing a cute post about puppies have got to warm up the heart a little bit, right? And there’s nothing wrong with that!

So if that’s the case, can we find the meaning behind a dog person and a cat person? We’ve got the answer for you!

Extrovert VS Introvert

Being an extrovert or an introvert has often become the main determiner of whether or not you prefer cats or dogs. A study conducted by Dr. Sam Gosling, a psychologist at the University of Texas found that people who are dog owners were more extroverted than cat owners by 15%!

High energy VS Low energy

Dog lovers tend to have higher levels of energy, and they prefer activities that require a lot of power, stamina, and strength! Whether that would be hiking, climbing, or swimming. These activities are also loved by our canine friends. On the other hand, cat lovers tend to like activities that require less physical energy, such as reading, listening to music, or even baking!

Rule-following VS Non-conformists

This might come as a surprise to a lot of us, since dog lovers tend to have a lot of playful energy but in reality, dog lovers are rule followers and they live their life according to a plan. Compared to cat lovers who tend to be more hedonistic, flexible, and love freedom!

Structured VS Open

Similar to the previous point, dog lovers love following a rule and routine, compared to cat lovers who tend to question the rules, authority, and even think outside of the box more often.

Although personality types among people who prefer cats or dogs might seem like they’re from different planets, in reality, we all have our own preferences. Every person has aspects within themselves that might apply more to a dog-lovers stereotype and vice versa. There are even people out there who don’t prefer any of these pets! But after all, combining all of these elements is exactly what makes us unique individuals. Making us hoomans have such a variety in personality, just like our fellow paw-friends we’re living with in this big big world!

Our team at MyFriend has surveyed the office and we’ve compiled a list of the top 5 things all pet parents do! How many of these things do you do as a pawrent? ??

Your camera roll is full of your pet's photo ?

Scrolling through the gallery, there are only pictures of your pet like they’re some sort of Instagram Model looking for the best angle! They’re probably doing the most random things when we decide to take that snapshot. Your selfies don’t even get to shine as much as your pet does.

Most days, you’d rather stay home and hang out with your pet

Sometimes you even make up excuses to avoid social interaction. Meeting other hoomans can be exhausting! But you know for sure that hanging out with your fur baby won’t drain your social battery.

Your pet has over 5 nicknames

Even though you have a real name (and maybe a full name) for your furry friend, you probably call them by their “pet” name instead. There’s even research done that states that these nicknames indicate affection! There’s no wonder why we keep coming up with new names. Just don’t change it too often so they can still remember their official name! ?

You feel trapped when your pet is napping on you!

Even when our legs are cramping up, it’s practically illegal to move. This is an unspoken universal law that all pet owners understand. You just can’t disturb their adorable restful nap! ?

You either have contemplated making an Instagram account for your pet or already have one

After all, no one’s pet is cuter than your own. Sharing is caring and everyone should see how cute your pets are! Maybe a chance to get that bag and become like one of these TikTok stars.

All of this is probably because we all think our pet is the cutest pet in the world! And these are the top 5 things we do as pet lovers here at MyFriend.

So, did we miss anything? What are some of the things you do with your pet? ?

Animal in Space: the journey to infinity and beyond!

Let’s take a look at which animals have traveled into space, which most humans haven’t even explored yet!

In the vastness of space, who knows what’s going on up there? As a small part of the universe, us, tiny hoomans have tried to explore the wilderness. Whether it would be for research, power, or even humanity as a whole! But did you know? Other than us humans, there are also other lives that have been handed the big assignment of exploration! ??

Let’s take a look at which animals have traveled into space, which most humans haven’t even explored yet!

Dog - Laika

Laika was one of the first soviet space dogs who went into Earth’s orbit in Sputnik 2. She was launched over 2,000 miles above Moscow on the 3rd of November 1957. The saddest part is the heat and pressure of the earth’s atmosphere, combined with fear made Laika pass over the rainbow bridge less than an hour after departure. Giving humans the hope of bettering the scientific community, to venture and catapult further into space!

Chimpanzee - Ham

After the soviet union and Laika’s take off, the United States had to act fast. That’s why they sent a Chimpanzee named Ham up into space! The special thing about this mission is Ham wasn’t just a passenger, but he was also the pilot! Although this might seem simple, it’s really not. Why did the U.S. do this? To prove first that humans can also travel into space and come back safe, all while dealing with 0 gravity. If a chimp can do it, we can too!

Cat - Félicette

An ex-stray cat that passed the rigorous test of French scientists to visit the moon and stars, Félicette was chosen to be the first CATstronaunt because of her calm and collected nature. Even through zero gravity testing! Her big mission was to leave Earth and return home safely. This is so the scientists were absolutely sure about the effects of space travel on the human brain. ? Read Félicette's full profile and history here!

Moon Jellyfish

Jellyfish are animals with similar gravity receptors as us humans. This sparked curiosity among NASA scientists, and now the real question is: can life still progress or grow in a place with no gravity? That’s why they sent jellyfish in three different phases of growth to see how they will respond to the new environment. To our surprise, they grew at a normal rate and they could swim normally! Also, the jellyfish even expanded their population. At the end of the experiment, there were over 60,000 jellyfish in the whole smack!

Newt

If any of you are thinking: sending dogs, cats, chimps, or even jellyfish are a little too ordinary, we want to introduce you to the Iberian Newt who’s a distant cousin of the Salamander (those who can regrow their limbs)! NASA scientists then wondered: can they regrow their bodies in outer space? The results did not disappoint humanity, turns out they could quickly replenish and regrow their limbs just as if they’ve never left!

Although the vastness of space is incomprehensible to most of us, and we’re still exploring the unknown bit by bit, humanity must thank these animals for their sacrifice. Maybe in the near future, us, hoomans can explore a new world with our pets, or even meet new species in another world! ??

5 Pawsitive superstitions about black cats

Despite being the symbol of Halloween, black cats are actually not scary at all!

Did you know? Black cats have the lowest rate of adoption – and because of this, they also have the highest rate of euthanasia. The main reason for this “black cat bias” – is the negative association of black cats with witchcraft.

Despite being the symbol of Halloween, black cats are actually not scary at all! They can be as loving, caring, and friendly as any other feline friend. In celebration of the spooky season, let’s take a look at some positive superstitions about black cats!

A blessing to your love life ❣️

In Japan and England, black cats are a positive companion for those looking for love! If a black cat enters a single woman’s home, she’ll find herself with many suitors! If she is married, the kitty will bring a long and happy love life. Another interesting superstition in Norse Mythology is that Freya, the goddess of love, beauty, and fertility, rides in a chariot drawn by black cats!

A black cat crossing your path ?‍♀️

Although we commonly think of a black cat crossing your path as a bad thing, there are several cultures in the world where this is considered a good omen. In British, German, and Japanese cultures: coming across these cats is considered a lucky thing! So when they’ve crossed your path, be prepared for a great day ahead.

Leading the way to furrtune ?

When you think of Japan, one of the most iconic symbols that comes to mind is the fortune cat! You know, those figurines with one raised paw (which is also quite common in Thailand too!). They usually come in white, but they also come in black – it is believed that black cats bring luck and also scare away evil energy. French peasants also believed that if a black cat was released in a place with a five-way intersection, it would lead to treasure and fortune.

The purrformance of a lifetime ?

Having a cat in the crowd during an opening night is a good omen. If there’s a black cat in the audience of a theater performance, be prepared for a sustainable and prosperous show. It’s been said that some actors have them in backstage rooms to keep the good vibes flowing!

Happy cat, happy weather! ☁️

Back in the day, sailing was a big gamble. Unpredictable tides and weather made it hard for sailors and their families to be sure there will be a safe return. English sailors believed that having a black cat on board would bring the sailors safe travels! Keeping them well-fed and happy (with an all-you-can-eat buffet ?) will ensure clear blue skies.

Contrary to popular belief, black cats are not bad luck, evil, or a bad omen. If anything, there are far more pawsitive superstitions surrounding black cats than negative ones. It just so happens that the negative association became much more popularized!

From wedding chapels, and theaters, to sailing the seas, black cats have been a lucky companion in our hoomans endeavors. They can be as cuddly, loving, and friendly as any other cat - so give these little guys a chance! Maybe you’ll be lucky in love, nail that acting role, or be blessed with winning the lottery.

Cujo - Cujo (1983)

When we talk about the most iconic pets in horror movies, Cujo is obviously the first on our minds! In the film, Cujo the well-known St. Bernard turned crazy from contracting rabies and went on a rampage, killing anyone (and everyone) who came near him. Winston Churchill - Pet Sematary (1989)

Of course, Stephen King always takes the cake when we're talking about horror. In the movie Pet Sematary, the British Shorthair named “Church” came back to life after a tragic accident, but not as the same cuddly and playful friend the family remembers.

Precious - Silence of the Lambs (1991)

It’s no mistake that the director Jonathan Demme, chose Darla, the cute fluffy Bichon Frise to play Precious, Buffalo Bills’ companion in the film. Precious’ innocence and adorable look only make the events in the film even more horrifying.

Lester - Halloween (1978)
