Life ‘Suppawt’: Unconditional Love that gets you through the day
75% of LGBTQ minorities consider pets as life supporters from gender-related stressors they face everyday.
Pets are special creatures with such ‘supaw-powers’ that they effortlessly fulfill our souls. They don't care if we are different from other people because they will love us no matter what. It's not uncommon to fall head over heels in love with them. ?
In the LGBTQ community, pet parenting is quite popular; pets are their babies, their friends, or a part of their family. Sometimes the going may get rough, your pet may get sick or life might be too hard but at the end of the day, being with your pet and feeling their love can heal your soul.
Shelby McDonald, Ph.D., Virginia Commonwealth University, and researchers, did a qualitative research about the benefits and risks of having a pet by interviewing 117 sexual and gender minorities in the United States.
According to the research, 75% of the participants consider their pets as "supporters" of gender-related issues—for example, discrimination, rejection, and microaggression from people around them.
The research really made us realize how much all paw friends mean to us, hoomans. What significant role they play in our lives. Since pets are excellent "suppawters" for us, don't forget to return your unconditional love back to them as well! ?
